THE TALE

The image on this shirt is of a drawing made by Brad Stumpf of his wife carrying an upturned cow atop her shoulder. It is printed to appear taped over the wearers heart.

"The inspiration for this drawing came from two places. First, it emerged from an image  of a filmset worker carrying a hollow prop of a cow on his shoulder. Second it originates from the saying of Milo of Croton: lift a calf everyday and when you grow up, you can lift a cow.

This saying inspired a the folk tale I heard as a young boy while working on the dairy farm. In the tale the boy does just as Milo says and lifts a calf every day. With each day, and with each subsequent pound the calf gained, the boy became a man and the calf a cow. By the end of the tale the man can lift a full grown cow with ease. I look at my wife, and think that if this is true, the power of her mind surely parallels the strength of the man in the story, and that she too could lift a cow with ease."
