THE TALE It is too easy to move through life without stopping to notice the unfamiliar. This pigeon was one of those reminders that it is ok to slow down and notice what is often fleeting. I see nature as a metaphor for time. I manipulate fragments from the natural environment such as flowers, weeds, and everyday objects that I collect from places like my backyard or from loved ones; to cast or transfer onto a surface in order to attempt to preserve the memories connected to these beings, specimens, objects, and plants. In the effort to preserve beauty, I invariably confront a loss of image and the grotesque may appear. I am in constant awe of nature and obsessed with documenting it. Knowing the beauty will fade, decay, rot, and discolor, I want to savor the moment. |
