THE TALE Pinocchio, the boy-puppet that wishes to be human, has to prove himself brave, truthful, and selfless. Pinocchio first behaves contrary to the fairy’s requests, and life teaches him painful lessons before he learns to be truthful, and becomes real. Molina found a Pinocchio puppet in a vintage store in Chicago. The puppet was so compelling, it inspired her to ponder on the narrative of this magical character. De Madera y Aire translates to “Of Wood and Air” - this artwork speaks of the ideas already embedded in Pinocchio's story: To be human, to be brave, truthful, and selfless, and it also speaks of the transience of our actions (aire; air) and of their weight (de madera; of wood). |
