THE TALE Frottage comes from taking a piece of washi paper, placing it on top of a plaster cast, and rubbing the surface with pigment. The plaster cast is called, Garden (weeds). To create it, I collected weeds from my backyard and made a mold of them to cast plaster. The tactile surface is what influenced me to make a rubbing in order to transform the plaster to something new. This resulted in a drawing that was then repeated into a wallpaper pattern. It captures nature in an abstract aesthetic to bring the outside in. |
