Camila Gaza Manly is an artist and designer based in Montreal, QC. Having grown up on Vancouver Island in BC, she counts nature as one of her greatest sources of inspiration.
Her work is greatly influenced by the makers and artists in her German and Danish heritage. After completing a BA in linguistics and philosophy in 2020, she has returned to the beloved practice of working with her hands. Her current focus is creating sculptural lighting to promote tranquility and well-being in the domestic sphere.
‘Lys’ is the general word for ‘light’ in Danish. It can also be used to mean ‘lamp’ and ‘candle’. ‘von’ means ‘from’ in German, and is part of her mother’s maiden name. And ‘Asta’ was her great grandmother's name on the Danish side. Lys von Asta light sculptures are where her heritage and aspirations meet.
