Liadain Warwick Smith was born and raised in Greenwich Village, New York City. She works out of her studio in Long Island, as well as at Brooklyn Clay and Greenwich House Pottery. Before focusing on ceramics, she studied fine art at Bennington College and graphic design at the School of Visual Art, which she paired with early freelance work and in the art department of a book publisher, designing jackets. In the years following her work as a designer, Liadain missed the tactile experience of regularly making art and has dedicated herself to an expanding ceramics practice. Each piece of Liadain’s work is unique. While she begins with an idea she always lets the peaceful process of creating take over. The calming quality of making is evident in the simplicity and delicacy of her ceramics.
