The brand has already become synonymous with an innovative handmade wire lace technique developed through a sustainable hybrid lacemaking practice that uses electrical wire. By rescuing discarded electrical wires, alexandra ȘIPA attempts to address and bring awareness to the issue of electronic waste, one of the fastest growing sources of waste reaching 50 million tons in 2020. Initially inspired by a broken phone charging cable in her bedroom, Alexandra is driven by the motivation to innovate sustainable luxury textiles rooted in Romanian culture.
alexandra ȘIPA is also working with an emerging British jewelry designer, based in Guernsey, to develop and create custom professional finishings made of recycled silver for some of the discarded electrical wire accessories, such as the bow necklace and bracelet.
