Charlene Adams is an American-Bolivian Artist whose interest lies in intersecting the two cultures through interactive education and exposure. She creates functional products that are inspired by her heritage in the Bolivian Amazon.
Crema Amazónica is an anhydrous (no water) handcrafted body butter inspired by my great grandmother's knowledge of ingredients found in the Amazon of Bolivia.
I am very proud to share my culture in a tangible way, which is why I made “Crema Amazonica”. In the Amazon it was not as simple as purchasing products, you needed to make them yourself, which is what my great grandmother did. Survival in that region is almost impossible unless you have the knowledge and necessary skills. My great grandmother could not read or write, and yet she spoke multiple dialects and knew the value and usage of the plants and animals of the Amazon.
