This hat’s journey to Zac The Maker was unknown until the day a local picker handed him this Resistol Hat. Zac knew it was a diamond in the rough despite it being sweat-stained and moth-eaten by the time it made it into his hands.
He cleaned and brushed the felt, then steamed the hat for an open crown and hand-ironed flat brim design.
The subtle pattern and hue were inspired by the inverted pink triangles adopted by the gay liberation movement of the 70’s and 80’s from symbols of hate forced on the LGBTQIA+ community in Nazi Germany. The inverted triangles were originally red along with prisoners’ numbers, and faded over time. When the symbol was reclaimed, the triangles were primarily pink. Here you see the pink triangles proudly upright in a show of support.
